Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Youth and Sports Minister Imam Nahrawi has pledged to evaluate the achievements of Indonesian athletes who have currently competed in the Southeast Asian (SEA) Games 2017 in Malaysia.

"We will totally evaluate the achievements of our athletes in this SEA Games to be sure of success in the upcoming Asian Games," he said in the Presidential Palace compounds here on Tuesday.

Indonesia will host the Asian Games next year.

Nahrawi stated that his ministry has ordered the Indonesian Olympic Committee (KOI) and the Gold Indonesia Program Task Force (Satlak Prima) to record everything to evaluate the achievements of athletes, juries, and non-technical matters.

The ministry will also take on the efforts of improving athletes performance, he remarked.

To achieve the target of being champions in the Asian Games 2018, the ministry will step up its coordination with all leaders of sport branches, he noted.

Indonesia has set itself the target of taking home 55 gold medals from the SEA Games 2017. Until the 11th day of the multi-sport biennial event on Tuesday, Indonesia remained in the fifth place in the provisional medal tally, with 36 gold medals, 62 silver medals, and 77 bronze medals.

"It is reasonable for us to be concerned about this result. I have to apologize (to the Indonesian nation for the achievement). I am responsible for all of these. We will certainly evaluate it totally," he remarked.(*)
