Denpasar, Bali (ANTARA News) - The Bali provincial government will have a modern hospital to offer cancer treatment services that will serve as a reference for the eastern part of Indonesia.

Construction of the hospital will begin in early 2018.

"Budget for the development of the hospital and procurement of medical equipment amounts to Rp105 billion of which the construction budget reaches Rp56 billion," Head of the Bali Provincial Health Office Ketut Suarjaya stated here on Monday.

He noted that the hospital building will have a basement and four floors and will be constructed in an area on the western side of the Bali Mandara Hospital on the By Pass Ngurah Rai Street, Sanur, Denpasar City, Bali Province.

"The cancer hospital will offer services covering early detection, examination, radiotherapy, radiodiagnostic, and nuclear medicine if possible. Currently, Indonesia has two modern cancer hospitals: the Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital and Dharmais Hospital," he remarked.

Suarjaya said his party is optimistic that the hospital will have facilities similar to those in the Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital and Dharmais Hospital in order to serve as a reference for the eastern part of Indonesia.

"We are very optimistic that with the development of the cancer hospital, the number of cancer patients on the waiting list would be reduced as well as treatment services would become faster and help to increase the cure rate. Currently, patients on a waiting list have to wait for more than a year to get cancer treatment services at the Sanglah Hospital," he pointed out.

Suarjaya said the planning of the building and health equipment must be carried out optimally to encourage simultaneous procurement.

"If the healthcare procurement budget is not adequate, then we can forge cooperation with a third party, but construction of the hospital building and recruitment of human resources will be handled by the provincial government of Bali," he said.

The provincial government had also forged cooperation with the Royal Darwin Hospital to support the development of the modern cancer hospital and a professor had been deployed as a consultant at the Bali Mandara Hospital.

"The Royal Darwin Hospital really supports the development of the cancer hospital, and the governor of Bali has sent a letter to it," he added.
