Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The Indonesian Creative Economy Agency (Bekraf), along with 11 businessmen and representatives of the administrations of Semarang City (Central Java Province) and Bandung City (West Java Province), visited Sweden from Nov 19 to 21, 2017, to explore cooperation in information technology and smart city.

"Sweden is interested in working in the field of film and mobile applications, while music and fashion are more quickly applied and developed," Bekraf`s Deputy Chief, Ricky Joseph Pesik, stated in a press release from the Indonesian Embassy in Stockholm received by ANTARA here on Wednesday.

Creative economy has great potential in the national economy. According to Ricky, there are three sub-sectors of creative economy that have an attraction and can affect the development of other sectors, namely film, animation, and music.

Ricky pointed out that there are several properties used in film industry, such as fashion and tourist attractions for shooting.

"When these properties are used, tourist attractions in the film become famous, thereby creating a positive impact on tourism sector," he stated.

Meanwhile, the Director General of Foreign Trade, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Indonesia, Teppo Taurianen, sees great potential in "dangdut" music, which will have added value, if delivered in an interesting way.

Dangdut is a genre of Indonesian folk and traditional popular music that is partly derived from Hindustani, Malay, and Arabic music.

Bekraf is developing programs, such as animation, handicrafts, and weaving products, that require strong international networking support.

Overall, Bekraf covers 16 creative economics sectors, including fashion, film and animation, culinary, crafts, visual arts, performing arts, music, architecture, visual communication design, product design, online application and games, television and radio, and photography.

All of these sub-sectors are expected to become the new mainstay of the national economic drivers in terms of contribution to gross domestic product, exports, and employment.

Sweden and Indonesia agree that the creative economy can develop into soft power diplomacy.

In addition to intergovernmental meetings, businessmen of both countries also hold business meetings.

A representative from Business Sweden, Fredrik Uddenfeldt, emphasized that Indonesia has many talented entrepreneurs in information technology business.

"It is important for Indonesia to improve its position in the global market," Uddenfeldt revealed.

Indonesian Ambassador to Sweden, Bagas Hapsoro, noted that the visit of the delegation of information technology and smart cities was an important step to implement the Letter of Intent between the Swedish and Indonesian governments on creative economy.

The document is an agreement, which was signed by the Head of Bekraf and the Swedish Minister of Enterprises and Innovation in Bogor, West Java, on May 22, 2017.

"If Indonesia`s creative economy sector is really worked out well, it is possible for Indonesia to compete on international scale, similar to K-Pop in the Republic of Korea," Bagas revealed.

The Government of Indonesia has delivered an official invitation to Sweden to attend the World Conference on Creative Economy to be held in Bali on May 3 and 4, 2018.

Director of the Swedish Agency for Growth Policy Analysis, Enrico Deiaco, plans to attend the event initiated by the Bekraf.

Meanwhile, Semarang Mayor, Hendrar Prihadi, and Bandung City`s Assistant General, Evi Syaefini Shaleha, expressed their interest to establish cooperation with Stockholm on smart city, especially on transportation and distribution of goods, as well as health services.

The cooperation plan was welcomed by the President of Stockholm City Council, Eva Louise Erlandsson, and the Head of Intergovernmental Relations of the Stockholm City Council, Anders Broberg.

Sweden and Indonesia agreed to cooperate in the development of innovation, creative economy, technology, research centers in electronic government services, sustainable transportation services, and the use of new and renewable energy.
