Jakarta (ANTARA News) - State-owned electricity company PLN has increased electricity supply to meet the power requirements during the 2018 Asian Games.

"Eight months prior to the 2018 Asian Games event, PLN has boosted electricity supply to meet the needs during the 2018 Asian Games," Jakarta Raya Distribution PLN General Manager M. Ikhsan Asaad noted in a press statement received here on Friday.

One of the efforts is to increase the capacity of the substation in Senayan, South Jakarta. The substation will become one of the main sources of power supply to several venues of the 2018 Asian Games at the Gelora Bung Karno sports complex, Senayan, Jakarta.

"The power has reached 5,540 kilo-volt-ampere (kVA) of the target of eight thousand kVA," he revealed.

The substation will be equipped with an automatic changeover switch.

Jakarta Raya Distribution PLN has expressed readiness to support the 2018 Asian Games event.

"The progress in the development of electricity infrastructure to serve as the main source of power has reached 90 percent. We also provide eight generators, with a capacity of 1250 kilovolts per unit," he noted.

The company has allocated Rp71 billion to increase electricity supply during the 2018 Asian Games.

The XVIII Asian Games are scheduled to be held in two cities -- Jakarta, the capital city, and Palembang in South Sumatra -- from August 18 to September 2, 2018

Indonesia plans to broadcast live 38 out of the 40 sports to be competed at the event.

"We will use a total of 427 high-definition cameras to broadcast all sports events live, except bridge and squash," Director of Broadcast of the Asian Games 2018 Organizing Committee INASGOC Linda Wahyudi earlier stated.

The public works and housing ministry had earlier estimated to complete the construction of all Asian Games infrastructure by the end of 2017.

The facilities could be used for test events of several branches of sports to be contested in at Asia`s largest sports event.

The work to renovate all facilities at Jakarta`s Gelora Bung Karno Stadium has reached 87.3 percent completion, a press release from the Public Works and Housing Ministry noted.

Meanwhile, in Palembang, the work to renovate and develop venues has almost been completed according to schedule. Construction of the Jakabaring Sport City in Palembang as well as other facilities has reached 92 percent completion.

Test events of the 2018 Asian Games will be held on February 10-18, 2018, for archery, athletics, badminton, basketball, boxing, football, martial arts, taekwondo, volleyball, and weightlifting.
