Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Indonesia`s Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Minister Susi Pudjiastuti has called on all parties to stop provoking fishermen, to protest the ban on trawler use which is said to be unfriendly to the environment.

"Media should be educative and take side with the truth, because if not this country would not move to any direction," Susi said here on Thursday.

She said, public apathy, skepticism and pessimism would only halt the nation from moving forward.

Therefore, she added, all parties including businessmen and politicians should not provoke fishermen and pitted minister against minister.

She furthermore called on all parties to make a synergy to maintain national stability.

Earlier on Wednesday, President Joko Widodo in a meeting with fishermen who staged a protest in front of the Merdeka Palace, said that the government would give more time for them to stop using trawler.

"The conclusion is that we give them more time, to change their fishing nets from trawl to other tools, without any deadline. But please do not add more trawlers," the President said.

After the meeting, Susi has called on protesters to adhere to the result of the meeting.

"I do not want to see any illegal trawlers still operating out there. And there will be no additional ships," she said.

The minister asserted that the policy to ban trawls is aimed at protecting fishermen as well as Indonesian sea, thus fishermen should give support to the policy.

The government would do its best to improve fishermen`s prosperity, Susi said.
