The immigration services are good, and I hope that they continue to improve."Kuala Lumpur (ANTARA News) - Indonesian Ambassador to Malaysia Rusdi Kirana wants the embassy in Kuala Lumpur to ease the documentation process for Indonesian nationals in Malaysia.
He made the statement during the commemoration of the 68th Immigration Services Day at Hasanuddin Hall, Indonesian Embassy, in Kuala Lumpur on Friday (Jan. 26).
"At the moment, the `trending topics` in the embassy are immigrant workers not having passports, children born outside of marriage, immigrant workers with children who have been left behind by their husbands, and workers without documents," he stated.
He further noted that when he comes across Indonesians in Malaysia, they often ask about immigration issues, as they seem to be a major problem requiring extraordinary handling.
He added that he will be issuing birth certificates to children of Indonesian nationals with foreign fathers.
"I have told our fellow Indonesians here that we will grant them birth certificates. We would be at fault if we do not give them passports; the same applies when we do not give them birth certificates. Do not let this become an issue similar to the Rohingya one," he remarked.
The ambassador was pleased with the improvements in the embassy services that were progressing over time.
"I am grateful as for the last two months, the services have been open 24 hours a day. The processing of passports can also be done online now; they no longer need to drop by the embassy," he revealed.
He added that the immigration service has been working with the Malaysian Postal services for passport deliveries.
"In February or March, the Education and Culture attache will also open a school that operates every Saturday and Sunday in the embassy grounds. Hasanuddin Hall will become an exhibition venue in the future," he noted
He stressed that the embassy officials will strive to provide the best services to Indonesian citizens or migrant workers in Malaysia.
"The immigration services are good, and I hope that they continue to improve," he emphasized.
Deputy Ambassador Andreano Erwin, function coordinators and attaches, as well as embassy officials participated in the event.
