Jakarta (Antara) - Vice President Jusuf Kalla arrived at Kansai International Airport in Osaka, Japan, Tuesday morning, to begin his three-day visit during which he will receive an honorary doctorate degree in peace and development from Hiroshima University.

Kalla and his entourage, including his wife, Mufidah, who arrived aboard Garuda Indonesia`s GA 882, were welcomed by Indonesian Ambassador to Japan Arifin Tasrif and Ambassador in charge of Kansai Kazuhide Ishikawa, Kalla`s spokesperson Husain Abdullah stated.

According to Abdullah`s press statement made available to ANTARA in Jakarta on Tuesday, Vice President Kalla is scheduled to meet with Osaka Governor Ichiro Matsui and Deputy President of Bank of Tokyo-Mitsubishi UFJ Eiichi Yoshikawa.

Kalla will also meet with the representatives of Kankeiren (Kansai Economic Federation), Kubota, AEON, and former Japanese ambassador to Indonesia Yutaka Iimura at Osaka`s Imperial Hotel after a luncheon lasting 30 minutes respectively.

On Tuesday evening, Kalla will have dinner at the Taiko Restaurant, while on Wednesday, he is scheduled to receive the honorary doctorate degree from Hiroshima University.

The conferment of the honorary doctorate degree on Kalla on Wednesday will add to the number of similar degrees that he has received from several Indonesian and foreign universities.

As revealed by Tempo`s news portal, Kalla has received at least 10 honorary doctorate degrees in various disciplines, including politics, economics, management, governance, and decentralization.

The universities that have bestowed the degrees on him are the University of Malaya, Malaysia; Soka University, Japan; University of Pendidikan, Indonesia; Hasanuddin University; University of Indonesia; Brawijaya University; University of Syiah Kuala; and Andalas University, Indonesia.

Kalla also received the degrees from Rajamangala University of Technology Isan, Thailand, and the Islamic State University of Alauddin, Indonesia. Kalla and his entourage will return to Jakarta and arrive at the Soekarno-Hatta International Airport on Thursday evening.
