"We are very much grateful and laud Focus magazine for recently selecting Sumba as the most beautiful island in the world," Jelamu remarked here on Monday.
The magazine, with five million circulations, has chosen Sumba Island because of its rich natural resources and culture, he added.
Located in southern NTT, Sumba Island has a vast and beautiful savanna, amazing sea, and exotic beach.
Besides, Sumba is also known for its traditional woven clothes, traditional houses, "pasola" horse racing, and megalithic remnants.
"International NGO, Bird Life, has designated Matalawa National Park as an important bird area, because there 10 endemic bird species living here," he noted.
The naming of Sumba Island is a major tourism promotion for NTT and is believed to attract many foreign tourists to visit the island, according to him.
According to a research, Sumba Island is the second-most favorite tourist destination after Komodo Dragon National Park, which is located Labuan Bajo on Flores Island, NTT.
