Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Indonesian Foreign Affairs Minister, Retno Marsudi has invited Muslims in Russia to spread the values of peace and tolerance.

The Indonesian Embassy in Moscow through its statement on Tuesday said that Minister Marsudi called on the Russian Muslims (to spread the values of peace and tolerance) when visiting the Moscow grand mosque and met with vice chairman of the Muslims Assembly of the Russian Federation, Damir Gizatullin on Monday.

"Indonesia is the world`s largest Muslim country and Muslims in Russia are also quite a lot. Hence, it would be good if the relationship could be improved and equally spread the values of peace and tolerance that are currently required," the minister stated.

Gizatullin highly appreciated the visit of the Indonesian Foreign Minister who is also one of the country`s top officials.

"It is an honor for us to receive this visit and perhaps the second high-ranking officials from Indonesia who visited this mosque after President Sukarno in 1956," Gizatullin explained.

According to Gizatullin, many things can be collaborated with Indonesia in the religious field as Indonesia has a lot of experience in the field, such as education, banking and hajj management.

Russia is one of the countries with the largest Muslims population in Europe that reaches about 25 million people.
