"We should protect farmers and our nation from dangerous viruses," Agriculture Minister, Andi Amran Sulaiman, noted here on Monday.
The government, according to the minister, has anticipated the entry of dangerous foodstuffs, such as commodity seeds that have viruses, and has provided a number of regulations, such as the rules issued by the Trade Ministry.
In the meantime, the Trade Minister, through Directorate General for Consumer Protection and Commerce Conduct, has seized five tons, or 254 sacks, of imported garlic seeds suspected to have misused import permits.
Earlier, Director for the Orderly Commerce of the Trade Ministry, Veri Anggrijono, remarked that his side has identified the importers of the imported garlic seeds, adding that his side will take firm action if the importer is found to have violated the rules.
In addition, deputy chairman of the national police of Food Task Force Affairs, Brig. Gen. Agung Setya, revealed that the party, which allegedly imported eight containers of the dangerous garlic seeds, should face trial in the court.
Apart from that, the agriculture minister also pointed out that the government has exported shallots to six countries.
