Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The Trade Ministry is seeking to boost the biodiesel export to European countries, following the end of a legal dispute of Indonesian producers on anti-dumping duty at the European Court of Justice (ECJ).

Oke Nurwan, the Trade Ministry's Foreign Trade Director General, stated that after winning the appeal, Indonesia and other partner countries will expand the market for Indonesian biodiesel products.

"Our palm oil is not a subject of subsidy, and this product is not traded with dumping price," Nurwan noted in a written statement received by ANTARA in Jakarta on Thursday.

Following the end of the dispute, the Indonesian government hopes the palm oil trade will return to normal.

Since Nov 19, 2013, the European Union has imposed an anti-dumping import duty from 8.8 percent to 23.3 percent. However, the policy has been challenged by Indonesian producers at the European court, as well as the Dispute Settlement Body of World Trade Organization (DSB WTO).

The first lawsuit was filed to the Class I Court on Feb 19, 2014, and the judges have denied the import duty policy to Indonesian biodiesel on Sept 15, 2016.

However, the EU has filed an appeal to the ECJ on Nov 24, 2016, and the judges continue to reaffirm the previous verdict of refuting the anti-dumping duty policy.

According to the Central Statistics Agency, after the EU imposed the anti-dumping duty, the Indonesian biodiesel export to European countries has drastically plunged by 42.84 percent, from US$649 million in 2013 to $150 million in 2016.

Indonesian biodiesel exports have reached their lowest point by $68 million in 2015.

Hence, following the EU court`s decision, Trade Minister Enggartiasto Lukita has expressed hope that the biodiesel export, as well as the palm oil trade will be increased by seven percent.

If the exporters are able to maintain the figure for two years, Indonesian biodiesel exports to European countries will reach $386 million in 2019 and $1.7 billion in 2022, the minister asserted.
