Bandung, W Java (ANTARA News) - Indonesia hopes that the trade war between the United States and China will be resolved through the World Trade Organization (WTO) mechanism, said Director General of Multilateral Cooperation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Febrian A Ruddyard.

"The US and China trade war should be resolved through the WTO dispute settlement mechanism," he said after opening a Government Officials Capacity Building Workshop on WTO issues in Bandung, West Java, on Monday.

He explained that all countries will be affected by the trade war of the two world economic powers. Trade concerns the interests of all countries.

"The WTO is the most perfect place to deal with trade disputes, and it already has a mechanism that involves world reputed lawyers so that it has high value of objectivity and legality," he said.

The same thing was also revealed by Dr. Poppy Sulistyaning Winanti, observer of world trade from the University of Gajah Mada (UGM). Indonesia needs to look closely at the trade war, especially if China takes a retaliatory action.

"If China takes repercussions and the EU follows it, then it will have a very bad impact on the world trade," said Winanti, who is also a lecturer at the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences of UGM.
