Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Indonesia`s economic growth is projected at 5.3 percent for the 2018-2020 period, up from 5.1 percent in 2017, according to the World Bank`s latest Economic Quarterly.

"The average economic growth is 5.3 percent for the 2018-2020 period," the World Bank Country Director for Indonesia, Rodrigo A. Chaves, said in the latest economic quarterly in Jakarta on Tuesday.

Rodrigo said the average projection of 5.3 percent is the closest forecast that Indonesia could achieve while the global economy is in the process of recovering.

"The growth of above 5 percent belongs to the three highest among G20 members, but there is still a chance to improve it because Indonesia`s potential economic growth may reach 5.6 percent," he said.

The projection is more realistic to achieve as many risks including slower global trade, volatility and declining household performance can put pressure on the Indonesian economic growth.

It is very important for Indonesia to continue to improve the performance of its economy to grow more optimally by consistently improving of ease of doing business to encourage investment, among others.

"Indonesia must send a clear message that capital inflow including foreign direct investment is not only invited but also is welcomed well," he said.

According to the World Bank report, Indonesia`s economic growth outlook will remain strong and positive until 2020 despite a number of external and internal risks.
