"Transmigrants do not need to worry as their ownership of land provided for them in transmigration areas would be legalized with certificate"
Manado, N Sulawesi (ANTARA News) - Minister for Rural Affairs and Backward and Transmigration Areas Eko Putro Sandjojo pledged that transmigrants will receive certificates for their land to confirm their ownership of land provided by the government under transmigration program

The government has facilitate landless farmers and poor families from crowded regions mainly Java to less populated regions such as Sumatra and Kalimantan.

"Transmigrants do not need to worry as their ownership of land provided for them in transmigration areas would be legalized with certificate," Eko Putro said here on Thursday.

He said certificates would be distributed by phases and the process would have no problem is the land history is clear.

The minister even asked regional administrations to give priority to transmigrants` lands in distributing land certificates.

Transmigrant families such as those in Kumai Seberang in Kota Waringin Barat, Central Kalimantan, have expressed worries that local people had claimed ownership of the lands given to them by the government.

They asked for certificate to confirm their ownership of the land they already cultivated, and to prevent dispute with the local people.
