"Economic activities had been down (after the terror attacks), but now is the moment for traders as business will increase ahead of Eid al Fitr festivities," she stated during a visit to Jembatan Merah Plaza shopping center.
Rismaharini stated that the economic activities in Surabaya had returned to normal after they were quiet following the bombings.
She toured some shopping centers in the city to assure the public that the situation had returned to normal.
She remarked that people must no longer be worried or afraid to go shopping. "I want people to trust me. I want people not only in Surabaya but also in the Indonesia eastern regions to understand that the city is now secure" she emphasized.
She visited Ciputra World and Pakuwon shopping malls in her effort to restore the economic condition in the city. She added that Surabaya Shopping Festival and Midnight Shopping event in May were still ongoing.
"Traders have just now revealed that the situation has returned to normal. However, the peak of shopping usually picks up two weeks ahead of Eid," she explained.
One of retailers at Jembatan Merah Plaza, Farah, noted that the sale figure has already improved, although it was still around 80 percent. She stated that she was optimistic that it will reach 100 percent, or even higher, two weeks before Eid.
"Thank God, it has started to recover. Just after the bombing incidents, sales had dropped, but now, it has started to pick up," she pointed out.
