Semarang, C Java (ANTARA News) - The Police of Central Java Province arrested five suspects for the robbery of nearly 30 kilograms (kg) of gold jewelry.

Chief of Central Java Police Inspector General Condro Kirono stated in Semarang on Wednesday that the five men from North Sulawesi conducted the gold heist at two different locations: Grobogan and Tegal districts in Central Java Province.

They were intercepted while fleeing to Jakarta, Kirono revealed.

The group stole 22 kg of gold jewelry from a distributor in Grobogan in February 2018.

The five suspects also looted 8 kg of gold jewelry from a distributor in Slawi of Tegal District.

"There was no police escort during the distribution of the jewelry," Kirono stated.

The group planned the heist after receiving a tip-off of the gold delivery schedule from an informant, who was also a member of the group.

The police confiscated the stolen jewelry, home-made guns, and some vehicles used during the heist.

Due to the excessive haul, the suspects had not sold all the gold jewelry.

Some jewelry had been found buried before the police seized the evidence.
