Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The Provincial Government of Jakarta along with the 2018 Asian Games Organizer will hold the 2018 Asian Games Torch Festival.

The sports event of the 18th Asian Games aims to stir up excitement for the Asian Games among Jakarta`s citizens in every corner.

Activities ahead of the 2018 Asian Games Torch Festival were held in five municipal administrations and Thousand Islands district administrations covering 44 sub-districts and 267 urban villages of Jakarta Province.

The theme of the festival is to invite the people of Jakarta to welcome and enliven the Asian Games 2018. In accordance with the theme, the organizer aims to spread euphoria among all people in Jakarta.

The replica of the 2018 Asian Games Torch will be carried by runners from each sub-district, then circumnavigate in villages and end in every sub-district.

Vice Governor of Jakarta Sandiaga Salahuddin Uno also launched an Asian Games festival in every sub-district that will later be followed by a torch parade. He expressed hope that the parade will be the culmination of activities in Jakarta that will host the event.

"I imagine that the Asian Games is not only owned by athletes or people around the venue or athletes village but also by the people in all areas of Jakarta and also across Indonesia," he stated here on Saturday.

Uno revealed that he will participate in the event ahead of the 2018 Asian Games Torch Festival at several points in Jakarta.

He also shared his experience of participating in a relay while carrying a torch during the London Olympics, England, in 2012.

"I am very proud of this activity, as I still remember when I brought the Olympic torch six years ago. I want to spread this spirit among the people of Jakarta," he stated.

Every urban village in Jakarta will be involved in the festival and have six runner teams. One team comprises 11 people, with the composition of one torch bearer, who is a community figure, athlete, as well as achievers from the village and 10 companion students.

Each team from urban villages will run a distance of 500 meters, after which the torch will be handed over to the next team until the end of the relay in the district, he explained.
