Foreign Minister Kono and his delegation arrived at the ASEAN Secretariat Building in Jakarta on Tuesday morning, accompanied by Japanese Ambassador to Indonesia Masafumi Ishii, who had earlier made a brief visit to the Kalibata Hero Cemetery.
During the three-day visit on June 24-26, Kono also met President Joko Widodo and several ministers and officials in the country and monitored the process of Mass Rapid Transit, among others.
Indonesian Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi met her Japanese counterpart Kono, and both agreed on the importance of enhancing cooperation in investment between Indonesia and Japan.
Both foreign ministers attended the 6th Indonesian-Japanese Strategic Dialogue at the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Jakarta on Monday.
Japan is the second-largest investor in Indonesia, with an investment value of US$5 billion in 2017.
On the same day, Kono also met with Coordinating Marine Affairs Minister Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan to discuss several cooperation projects between the two countries in the infrastructure sector.
"The meeting with the Japanese foreign minister was related to the cooperation for the construction of the Jakarta-Surabaya train, Patimban harbor, and MRT of Jakarta. They are interested in participating in the Trans Sumatra toll road project and are keen to make a foray into aquaculture in Natuna," Pandjaitan noted at the Coordinating Ministry of Marine Affairs on Monday.
The minister explained that the two parties will immediately form a special task force to finalize and realize the cooperation.
