Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Indonesia is expected to win over two gold medals in the weight lifting category at the 2018 Asian Games scheduled from Aug 18 to Sept 2, Indonesia`s Chef de Mission Comm. Gen. Syafruddin stated.

"Weight lifting athletes are delivering good performance. There could be surprises in store at the Asian Games. We have targeted two gold medals, but it could be more than two," Syafruddin remarked here on Thursday.

Syafruddin, also Indonesia`s deputy police chief, noted that some athletes were participating in international trials and training.

"We only have 50 more days. We will see their mental preparedness and uphold the spirit. We are expecting public support and prayers," he added.

The Indonesian contingent at the 2018 Asian Games will comprise at least 1,200 members, including 900 athletes and coaches.

During an earlier meeting with Vice President Jusuf Kalla, Syafruddin had reported that 60 percent of Indonesian athletes, who will compete in the Asian Games, had already returned to the country.

Syafruddin has planned to invite them in mid-July to participate in an event in Batujajar, Bandung in West Java, to uphold their fighting spirit.

Kalla, head of the steering committee of the Indonesia Asian Games 2018 Organizing Committee, emphasized that the Indonesian contingent should focus on efforts to achieve the target of ranking among Asia`s top 10, with 16 gold medals.

Kalla has arranged a meeting between President Joko Widodo and all parties involved in the preparations for the Asian Games before the opening ceremony on Aug 18.
