Palembang, South Sumatra (ANTARA News) - Numerous tourist attractions in the South Sumatra provincial capital of Palembang are currently gearing up to welcome the international sporting event of Asian Games to be held from August 18 to September 2, 2018.

"Since the past few years, tourist attractions in Palembang have gradually been renovated and prepared for the Asian Games, in which some 16 thousand athletes, coaches, officials, and guests from a total of 45 Asian countries will participate," Palembang City Government spokesman Harobin Mastofa remarked here on Monday.

Mastofa noted that the tourist attractions have been prepared to ensure that the visitors are satisfied and carry home lasting memories of the Asian Games.

"Apart from revamping the city of Palembang, in general, we also renovated mainstay tourist attractions, such as the Ampera Bridge, Fort Kuto Besak, Bukit Siguntang, and other locations commonly visited by tourists," he stated.

Mastofa explained that Bukit Siguntang is the highest point in Pelembang City, with an altitude of some 30 meters above sea level, where some supporting facilities, such as a dining or resting place and sale of souvenirs, have been included.

During the Asian Games, several athletes and invited guests will likely visit this area and other various attractions.

By making various preparations, he expressed hope that tourists visiting Palembang would be able to enjoy various mainstay historical, natural, and cultural attractions.
