Jakarta (ANTARA News) - An earthquake measuring 5.3 on the Richter scale hit Waingapu, East Sumba district, East Nusa Tenggara province, before dawn on Friday.

The epicenter of the quake which struck at 04.36 West Indonesia Standard Time (WIB) was located in the sea 47 kilometers southeast of Ngada district, East Nusa Tenggara, at a depth of 78 kilometers, according to the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG).

The agency categorized the tremor as a light earthquake which did not have the potential to cause damage.
