The meeting was held shortly after the president arrived at Sultan Muhammad Kaharuddin Airport in Sumbawa Besar district, according to the presidential secretariat`s deputy for protocol, press and media affairs, Bey Machmudin in a statement released on Sunday.
Speaking to the press after the meeting, the president said he had ordered his ranks and files, including the chief of the National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB), the social service minister, the public works and housing minister and the chief of the National Defense Forces (TNI) to act immediately to help the affected people.
The president is scheduled to visit the quake-hit areas and victims on Monday.
Also present at the limited cabinet meeting were Public Works and Housing Minister Basuki Hadimuljono, Religious Affairs Minister Lukman Hakim Saifuddin, Chief of the Presidential Staff Moeldoko, West Nusa Tenggara Governor Muhammad Zainul Majdi, Chief of the Presidential Secretariat Heru Budi Hartono, the President`s Military Secretary Rear Marshal Trisno Hendradi, and Commander of the Presidential Security Force (Paspampres) Major General Suhartono.
The quake rocked Lombok and Sumbawa Islands on Sunday at 6:47 a.m. local time, leaving at least 14 people dead and 162 others injured.
The quake also caused damage to thousands of houses.
The district of East Lombok was hit the hardest, with 10 people killed, including a Malaysian, Head of the Data and Information Center and Public Relations Service of the National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) Sutopo Purwo Nugroho said in Jakarta on Sunday.
The tremor was centered 8.4 degrees southern latitude and 116.55 degrees eastern longitude, 47 km east of the West Nusa Tenggara provincial capital of Mataram, at a depth of 24 km.
Following the quake, Lombok was jolted by tens of aftershocks.
As of 14.00 West Indonesia Standard Time, the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) has recorded a total of 124 aftershocks with smaller intensity.
The quake victims are currently in dire need of medical workers, medical supplies, kids ware and fast food.
The BPBD and other several agencies have distributed mineral water, tents, and supplement food to the quake victims.
