Pekanbaru, Riau (ANTARA News) - Six fighter jets -- F16 Fighting Falcon and Hawk 100/200 Black Panther -- staged a flypast to welcome the arrival of the Asian Games Torch in Riau Province on Wednesday.

The torch and its bearers, led by Air Commodore Eko Dono, arrived at the Roesmin Nurjadin Airbase here at 3:30 p.m. local time from North Sumatra aboard an Air Force Hercules C-130 aircraft.

Before conducting the flypast, the fighter jets escorted the Hercules from the Silangit International Airport in North Tapanuli, North Sumatra.

Commander of the Roesmin Nurjadin Airbase Colonel Ronny Irianto and Riau Governor Arsyadjuliandi along with other regional government officials were present at the airport to welcome the arrival of the torch.

Traditional martial art performances and other local Malay traditional dances were performed to welcome the arrival of the torch.

The torch was immediately taken to Siak District where it would be paraded through several tourism and cultural sites, including the Siak Palace.

On Thursday, the torch will be carried back to Pekanbaru, the province`s capital, where it would be taken across the city before being relayed in West Sumatra.

Riau is the 27th location to be covered by the 18th Asian Games Torch Relay that had started since July 15 from New Delhi, India, the first Asian Games venue.
