Jakarta, (ANTARA News) - President Joko Widodo briefed candidates for legislative members from his Indonesia Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP) at a meeting here on Sunday ahead of parliamentary elections scheduled next year.

Jokowi, as the president is also called, ordered them to explain to the people about the importance of the government programs that have been carried out so far.

"In essence, we want them to explain about the programs that have been carried out by the government and enjoyed by the people," he said.

Citing an examples, he referred to subsidies given through Indonesia Healthy Card program in the health sector, Indonesia Smart Card program in the education sector, Family of Hope program and distribution of land certificates.

He said he also hoped that candidates from coalition member parties would also do the same.

"Yes, all engines must be operated and they must work optimally so that people would trust us and give their mandate to the parties, to us and this is I think what we expect," he said.

The meeting was also attended by PDIP general chairperson Megawati Soekarnoputri and other party leaders.

Jokowi met with secretary generals of nine coalition member parties on Tuesday discussing the government`s second phase of nine development priorities and plan to set up a special team to finalize mission and vision.
