"He (minister Pompeo) said that the situation in Palestine is not easy. However, when I mentioned about the two-state solution, I saw him accept," she stated.
She remarked that Pompeo saw the two-state solution as the only way of settling the protracted conflict between Israel and Palestine.
"He did not reject two-state solution. He noted that more time was needed before a peace plan could be made on Palestine," she revealed.
At the meeting, Marsudi emphasized that the Palestinian issue not only drew attention from the Indonesian government but also the people in the country.
"And indeed specifically, I mentioned the two-state solution as the only valuable and lasting solution," she added.
Earlier, at the meeting between foreign ministers of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and the US in Singapore, Marsudi had also underlined the importance for ASEAN and the US to support the efforts for the resolution of the Palestinian issue.
"The situation in Palestine is the responsibility of all of us. Efforts to settle the issue will not only contribute to stability in the Middle Eastern region but also peace and stability in the world," she explained.
Indonesia believes that the two-state resolution was the only viable solution, and the US is expected to be able to immediately submit a new peace plan, Marsudi pointed out.
