"On behalf of President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi and the people of Egypt, I would like to send our best wishes to the Indonesian people on the 73th anniversary of your independence," Chamberlain within the Protocol Office of the President of Egypt Mohamed Yehia said in a statement here on Sunday.
The statement was delivered during a meeting between Mohamed Yehia and Indonesian Ambassador to Egypt Helmy Fauzi in Cairo.
The visit was supposed to be carried out before the ceremony of the proclamation at the Indonesian Embassy in Cairo on August 17. Yehia advanced his plan to meet Ambassador Fauzi because the ambassador would go to perform hajj.
Several officials from the Indonesian Embassy in Cairo who attended the meeting were, among others, Head Counselor for Political Function of the Indonesian Embassy in Cairo, Sonny Sasongko and Defense Attache Colonel Kemas Ikhwan.
Ambassador Fauzi assessed that the visit showed the closeness of diplomatic relations between Indonesia and Egypt, which had been established for more than 71 years.
"We are very grateful and laud the attention of President al-Sisi to Indonesia," he remarked.
The ambassador expected that the bilateral relations could continue to be improved.
Moreover, Egypt has a strategic position, both in the Middle East and the African Continent.
"We believe that the relations between Indonesia and Egypt is getting better and cooperation in various fields can be realized," Ambassador Fauzi said.
