Jakarta (ANTARA News) - President Joko Widodo left for Lombok Island on Monday to inspect the areas hit hardest by a powerful magnitude-7 earthquake on Aug 5.

The president departed from Halim Perdanakusuma Airbase in East Jakarta at 01.20 p.m. local time by a presidential plane Indonesia-1, the presidential secretariat`s deputy for protocol, press and media affairs, Bey Machmudin, said.

Jokowi, as the president is popularly called, is scheduled to arrive at Lombok International Airport in West Nusa Tenggara province at around 04.08 p.m. local time.

He will continue his journey to Pemenang sub-district, North Lombok district, by a Super Puma helicopter owned by the Indonesian Air Force.

North Lombok bore the brunt of the powerful earthquake as it is located near the epicenter.

The National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) put the death toll from the earthquake at 436 as of Monday.

According to the agency, 374 of the victims were found in North Lombok district, 37 in West Lombok district, 9 in Mataram city, 12 in East Lombok district, 2 in Central Lombok district, and 2 in Lombok city.

The earthquake also injured 1,353 people, with 733 of them seriously injured and 570 lightly injured.

Based on data from the Lombok earthquake response command post, the earthquake forced 352,736 people to take refuge.
