Prince Abdulaziz, a grandson of former king Faisal bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, came for the opening ceremony of the Asian Games 2018 in Jakarta, on behalf of King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud.
In the meeting, Jokowi expressed appreciation to the support of Saudi Arabia to the implementation of the Asian Games.
Saudi sent 140-member contingent to participate in various events during the largest multi-sport event in Asia, Bey Machmudin, spokesman of the President, said in a statement, Sunday.
Jokowi also hoped that the Hajj pilgrimage being host by Saudi Arabia currently would run smoothly and safely. More than 200 thousand Indonesian Muslims perform Hajj pilgrimage this year.
The President was flanked by Coordinating Minister for Culture and Human Development Puan Maharani, Foreign Affairs Minister Retno LP Marsudi, and Minister/State Secretary Pratikno during the meeting with the Saudi Prince.
The 18th Asian Games is being co-host by Jakarta and Palembang in South Sumatra Province, from Aug 18 to Sept 2 this year.
Some 17 thousand athletes and officials from 45 Asian countries have registered for the Games. Overall, more than 11,000 athletes will be vying for medals in 40 sports events and 67 disciplines.
