Indonesian swimmer Azzahra Permatahani strolled into the final 400-meter individual women`s medley after recording a time of four minutes, 53.58 seconds, and ranked seventh in the preliminary round at the Gelora Bung Karno Aquatic Stadium, Jakarta, on Tuesday.
Permatahani proved her ability in this event, when she won the silver medal at the SEA Games 2017 in Kuala Lumpur.
But Permatahanir`s struggle at the Asian Games this time will not be easy because she will face Yui Ohashi, the silver medalist of the 2017 World Championship in Budapest, in the 200-meter women`s personal style.
In the meantime, Japan`s representative Ohashi was at the top of the preliminary round, with a time of four minutes and 42.11 seconds.
Besides Permatahani, four Indonesian swimmers, Patricia Yosita Hapsari, Ressa Kania Dewi, Adinda Larasti Dewi, and Sagita Putri Krisdewanti will participate in the finals of the 4x200-meter women`s relay-freestyle.
The four representatives of Indonesia were ranked sixth, with a time of eight minutes and 34.05 seconds. They will face tough competitors from the Chinese team, who were in the first place in the preliminary round with eight minutes and 01.41 seconds.
In addition, Indonesian swimmer Aflan Fadlan Prawira managed to move to the finals of the men`s 400-meter freestyle, despite being in the allowance position with a time of three minutes and 54.45 seconds.
However, Nurul Fajar Fitriyati failed to advance to the final 50 meters in the women`s backstroke, and Triady Fauzi Sidiq did not make it to the men`s 50-meter freestyle final.
Fitriyati was ranked 12th with a time of 22.91 seconds, while Triady was in the 14th position after posting a time of 22.95 seconds.
Indonesia also failed to send its representatives to the women`s 100-meter butterfly final after Adinda Larasti Dewi and Sofie Kemala Fatiha were excluded, each with a time of one minute and 02.02 seconds and one minute and 05.97 seconds.
