Jakarta  (ANTARA News) - Indonesia set a new national record in the women`s 4x100 meter medley relay at the Asian Games 2018 here on Thursday night.

The Indonesian quartet of Nurul Fajar Fitriyati, Anandia Vanessa Evato, Adinda Larasati Dewi and Patricia Yosita Hapsari clocked in at 4 minutes 11.63 seconds to break the previous national record of 4 minutes 12.44 seconds set at the SEA Games 2017.

Not only did the quartet set the new national record, but they also finished fourth after China and South Korea were disqualified from the event.

"This is the last match of the women`s relay at the Asian Games 2018. The new national record and the new ranking is the best way to end it." Patricia Yosita Hapsari said while holding her tears at the Aquatic Center of Bung Karno Stadium here.

Patricia said she was happy that Singapore finished third with a time of 4 minutes 09.65 seconds in the event and managed to add to their medal tally.

"Singapore is a fellow Southeast Asian country. We find it difficult to compete at Asian level," the 25-year old swimmer said.

Anandia Vanessa Evato said she thanked Indonesian fans for their support that motivated her to increase her speed in the competition.

Indonesian swimming coach Albert C. Sutanto said a number of new national records set at the quadrennial sports event showed that Indonesian swimmers had taken one step forward to improve their performance.

Several Indonesian swimmers have also broken national records at the Asian Games 2018, including I Gede Siman Sidartawa with a time of 25.01 seconds in the men`s 50-meter backstroke, Aflah Fadlan Prawira with a time of 3 minutes 53.01 seconds in the men`s 400-meter freestyle and Vanessa Evato with a time of 1 minute 09.78 seconds in the women`s 100-meter breaststroke.
