"We see the 2018 Asian Games as a good experience for all of us," he said after the finals of triathlon mixed relay in Jakabaring Sport City in Palembang, South Sumatra on Sunday.
Four Indonesian athletes participated in the match, including Jauhari Johan who also led the team. The other three included Asihta Aulia Azzahra, Eva Desiana and Andi Lawello.
They finished 9th out of the 13 participating teams. The Indonesian team clocked in at 1 hour and 44.01 minutes, or 13.22 minutes behind the Japanese team who finished first.
Jauhari stated that this is the first time that Indonesia competed in this specific number. "W cannot compare the time, as the team was just formed and we never had trial matches before," he said.
The 34-year-old athlete believed that the other teams were far more experienced and prepared, as they have been preparing for the Asian Games 2 to 3 years prior, which explained their achievements.
He also said that the experience in the 2018 Asian Games can be used by Indonesia to prepare for the 2019 SEA Games in the Philippines.
There will be four triathlon categories contested in the event, including standard distance, mixed relay, duathlon and aquathlon.
He hoped that the year left before the SEA Games will be enough for the team to prepare and continue competing as a team.
"We need to carry out more trial matches to prepare and hopefully we can compete in all categories as we have the opportunity to win gold medals," he said.
