"We view the 2018 Asian Games as a good experience for all of us," he noted after the finals of the triathlon mixed relay in Jakabaring Sport City in Palembang, South Sumatra, on Sunday.
Four Indonesian athletes participated in the match, including Jauhari Johan, who also led the team. The three others included Asihta Aulia Azzahra, Eva Desiana, and Andi Lawello.
They finished 9th out of the 13 participating teams. Indonesia`s time stamp was recorded at 1 hour and 44.01 minutes, or 13.22 minutes behind the Japanese team that finished in the first place.
Johan stated that this is the first time that Indonesia competed in this specific number.
"We cannot compare the time, as the team was just formed, and we never had trial matches before," he noted.
The 34-year-old athlete believed that the other teams were far more experienced and prepared, as they have been preparing for the Asian Games since the past two to three years, which explained their achievements.
He also said that the experience gained during the 2018 Asian Games can be used by Indonesia to prepare for the 2019 SEA Games in the Philippines.
Four triathlon categories to be contested at the event, include standard distance, mixed relay, duathlon, and aquathlon.
He expressed hope that the year left before the SEA Games will be sufficient for the team to prepare and continue competing as a team.
"We need to hold more trial matches to prepare, and hopefully, we would be able to compete in all categories, as we have the opportunity to win gold medals," he added.
