Ternate, N Maluku (ANTARA News)- The Asian Para Games Torch relay arrived at the Sultanate of Ternate here on Saturday prior to the implementation of the Third Asian Para Games and the commemoration of National Sport Day.

The torch was handed over by Raden Isnanta, deputy chairman of the Indonesian Asian Para Games 2018 Organizing Committee (INAPGOC), to Burhan Abdurahman, the mayor of Ternate municipality and representative of the Ternate Sultanate.

Ternate will hold an Asian Para Games torch parade on Sunday. The parade will start from the Ternate Sultanate palace and finish at the Gelora Kie Raha square.

Some two thousand cyclists will participate in the torch parade in Ternate.

Meanwhile, the torch of Asian Para Games 2018 was paraded in the city of Solo in Central Java on Wednesday (Sept 5) after it was lit using the eternal flame in Mrapen Grobogan, Central Java.

The torch arrived at the National Paralympic Committee (NPC) office at around 2 p.m. and was welcomed by hundreds of athletes who would compete in the event.

It was handed over to the president of NPC Indonesia, Senny Marbun, by the general chairman of Indonesia Asia Para Games Organizing Committee (Inapgoc), Raja Sapta Oktohari, before it was paraded across the city towards the City Hall where it would be kept before being taken to Ternate in the eastern province of Maluku to be involved in the National Sports Day commemoration on Sept 9.

Several officials and artists were involved in the parade as bearers, including the chief of staff of the Diponegoro Regional Military Command, Brigadier General Ahmad Lutfi; artists Bertrand Antolin and Gusti Mung; city mayor Hadi Rudyatmo, and Coordinating Minister for Human Development Puan Maharani.

The 2018 Asian Para Games scheduled in Jakarta from Oct 6 to 13, 2018, will be followed by 2,888 athletes from 41 countries who will compete in 18 sports.
