Meulaboh, Aceh (ANTARA News) - Floods have hit the districts of South Aceh and Southwest Aceh in Aceh Province, following incessant heavy rains since yesterday.

In Southwest Aceh District, floods inundated 20 villages and submerged hundreds of homes in five sub-districts, Ahmad Dadek, acting head of the Aceh disaster mitigation office, said in a statement, Sunday.

The five sub-districts are Setia with six villages flooded, Tangan Tangan (one village), Manggeng (six villages), Lembah Sabil (two villages), Blang Pidie (four villages), and Susoh (one village).

The flood waters reaching a height of between 50 cm and 100 cm, also submerged several public facilities and farming areas.

At least two bridges and two homes were damaged by the flooding in Southwest Aceh.

In South Aceh, flooding affected Gampong Lhok Bengkuang Timur in Tapaktuan sub-district, and Gampong Tengoh in Trumon Tengah Sub-district, affecting at least 46 families.

A main road connecting Tapaktuan and Medan (North Sumatra Province) was also inundated with flood waters reaching a height of up to 30 cm, according to Ahmad Dadek.

The South Aceh district administration has deployed personnel to help clean affected houses from mud carried by the flooding, he said.
