Built by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs since 2015, the portal provides a single-service system for Indonesian citizens through Indonesian Representatives abroad.
"Yes, this portal is for service and protection of our Indonesian citizens in countries around the world," Jokowi remarked here on Monday.
The portal is the first time in history for Indonesia to have one Indonesian citizen service standard and one Indonesian citizen data abroad.
Through the portal, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs will have a uniform Indonesian citizen service system throughout the Republic of Indonesia Representative, integrated with all relevant national data centers, a Population Registration Number abroad, and civil registration documents for Indonesian citizens abroad.
Indonesian citizens also apply for service documents online or through the Indonesian Representative office abroad.
Seoul is chosen as the place for the launch of this system, because South Korea is a country where there is a large concentration of Indonesian citizens.
There are around 40 thousand Indonesian citizens in South Korea, and most of them work as migrant workers in the formal sector.
Of this number, as many as 2,161 citizens have reported themselves online since the system was first tested in July 2018.
