Pekanbaru, Riau (ANTARA News) - Pekanbaru police have arrested three men and confiscated 4.5 kilograms of methamphetamine and more than 3,000 ecstasy pills worth more than Rp7 billion in the street price.

The three, identified by their initials as HH (32), AS (22) and MA (22) and arrested here last week, are all from Dumai and one of them is a student, Deputy chief of the Pekanbaru police Adj.Sr.Com Edy Sumardi Priadinata said here on Wednesday.

Edy said police moved after receiving information that the suspects, one had been long in the police watch list, had entered the city driving a minibus.

Reports were frequent about drug cases in Riau especially in Pekanbaru. Police said this year, police have so far foiled trade of 239 kilograms of methamphetamine worth about Rp300 billion in the street price, and 131,121 ecstasy pills. Most of the drugs were smuggled into Riau and to the the city by sea.

Most of the drugs known to have smuggled into the province of Riau are methamphetamine and ecstasy followed by marijuana and H - Five pills, police said.

Earlier in Banjarmasin police nabbed a man identified as RM (25) and his girl friend AR (23) on charge of selling methamphetamine and ecstasy.

Police caught redhanded the pair about to sell the illicit drug at a street in the South Kalimantanh capital city.

From Jayapura, Papua, it was reported that the border security guard unit of the Army Strategic Command thwarted an attempt to smuggle into the country 26.5 kilograms of marijuana and arrested 65 suspects including nine Papua New Guinean nationals from March to August this year.
