Yogyakarta (ANTARA News) - Women are expected to cooperate with the government to eradicate corruption, a representative of the Indonesian Christian Women Association, Christine Sibarani, stated at the National Gathering of One Thousand Indonesian Women`s Organizations held here on Friday.

"Women should serve as government partners in eradicating corruption. We should be able to say that `we are anti-corruption women`," Sibarani told Antara.

According to her, the involvement of women in eradicating corruption is also a priority of the mission of the Indonesian Christian Women Association (PWKI).

On a different occasion, the Chairperson of the South Sulawesi`s Women Organization Cooperation Agency, Farida Pelupessy, said Indonesian women should be at the frontline of the fight against corruption in Indonesia.

"At this national gathering, Indonesian women are asked to be the Mothers of the Nation, meaning, we should always be role models to be honest and open," she said.

Regarding the National Gathering of One Thousand Indonesian Women Organizations, which was held in conjunction with the 35th General Assembly of the International Council (ICW), Sibarani hoped that similar events could be regularly held in the future.

"Meetings such as these are very important and should see the participation of representatives of each women organization in Indonesia. Of course, preparation is hard, but Praise God, the State-owned Enterprise (SOEs) Ministry and all other ministries which are led by female leaders are very supportive," she said.

Thousands of female figures around the world are gathering at the 35th General Assembly of the ICW and the National Gathering of One Thousand Indonesian Women`s Organizations. ICW is an association of world women leaders, which is affiliated with the United Nations.

Both events are organized by ICW and the Indonesian Women Congress (Kowani). They are fully supported by the SOEs Ministry and 35 SOEs, including the Antara News Agency, which is directly participating in the success of the two meetings.
