Jakarta (ANTARA News) - State-owned oil and gas firm PT Pertamina Hulu Energi Offshore North West Java (PHE ONWJ) has begun the development stage of the new YYA offshore oil platform in the Handil YY oil/gas field, Kutai Kartanegara, East Kalimantan.

"After evaluation, it was found that the oil/gas reserves in the YYA-4 exploration well are very feasible to be explored," PHE ONWJ General Manager Siswantoro M. Prasodjo said in Jakarta on Wednesday.

YY Field Development is a follow-up to the successful discovery of oil and gas reserves from the drilling activity of YYA-4 exploration well in 2011. YY field is located about 90 kilometers from Jakarta off the north coast of West Java.

Production from the YY field is expected to begin by the end of 2019, with a daily average oil and gas production potential of 3,750 barrels per day (BPD) and 20 million standard cubic feet per day (MMSCFD).

The US$85.4 million project includes the construction of a new YYA platform, building a 12"subsea pipeline along 13.5 kilometers, and modification of the platforms already on the KLB and KLA platforms.

PHE ONWJ is one of the largest oil and gas producers in Indonesia. Until August 2018, PHE ONWJ`s oil and gas production was around 30 thousand barrels per day and 106.4 MMSCFD.

Having started production since 1971, PHE ONWJ plays an important role in turning the wheels of the national economy. All oil and gas production of PHE ONWJ is fully channeled to meet domestic energy needs.

"YY Field Development is a strategic step to secure the country`s energy supply," Siswantoro pointed out. *** 3 ***
