Jakarta, (ANTARA News) - Indonesian climbers took home one gold and two silver medals from the Climbing Elite Tournament held in Anshun, China, on Sept 21 and 22.

Indonesia won the gold medal, through Aries Susanti Rahayu, and two silver medals, through Aspar Jaelolo and Puji Lestari, the Indonesian Climbers Federation said in a press statement released on Saturday.

Rahayu grabbed the gold medal in the women`s individual speed world record event after beating Lestari in the all-Indonesian final. As a runner-up, Lestari bagged a silver medal.

Rahayu clocked in at 7.72 seconds, leaving behind Lestari, with a time of 7.89 seconds.

The bronze medal went to Russian climber Maria Krasavina.

In the men`s individual speed world record event, Aspar Jaelolo finished second as he fell, allowing Chinese climber Chen Zhi Hang to clinch the gold medal. Russia`s Stanislav Kokorin, who finished third, won the bronze medal.

In addition to the speed event, Jaelolo, Rahayu, and Lestari also competed in the lead event, but they failed to step into the finals.

To qualify for the finals, each climber must at least finish eighth, while Aspar and Aries stood ninth.

FPTI Chief Faisol Riza remarked that the three medals suggested that Indonesian climbers are ready for the 2020 Summer Olympics to be held in Tokyo.

"This is a good signal for us and the government to prepare a national training center soon," he noted.

Jaelolo, Rahayu, and Lestari are all elite climbers invited to the championship by China.
