Jakarta, (ANTARA News) - The Indonesian government will not raise funds for victims of a powerful magnitude-7.4 earthquake and subsequent tsunami in Central Sulawesi Province during the annual meetings of International Monetary Fund-World Bank (IMF-WB) Group in Bali this month.

"I think we do not need to do that because (Finance Minister) Mrs. Sri Mulyani said our funds are sufficient to handle it (the impact of the quake and tsunami)," Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan stated here on Monday.

He said the government will not declare the quake and tsunami a national disaster. However, it will accept international aid.

"The president has stated that we will selectively receive international assistance," he noted.

He said the IMF-WB annual meetings will be held as scheduled, as all sides involved have made good preparations for the meetings.

"There is nothing to worry about. Actually, it (the disaster) is an ordinary thing as we live in the so-called "Ring of Fire." What is important is that we have a contingency (plan in place) and improve our BMKG (meteorology, climatology and geophysics agency)," he stated.

He noted that the BMKG instruments must be repaired to issue tsunami early warnings accurately.

"We have agreed to repair the BMKG instruments and warn the public against incidents of buoys being stolen. Many (buoys) were stolen in Aceh and Palu, and consequently, early warning was late," he added.

He said the IMF-WB meetings will be held as scheduled since preparations for the event were 98-99 percent complete.
