Jakarta, (ANTARA News) - At the commemoration of its 60th anniversary, Bandung Islamic University (Unisba) will announce a cooperation program among Islamic universities in Southeast Asia.

Unisba`s Vice Chancellor III Asep Ramdan Hidayat stated here on Wednesday that the cooperation program was named Unisba for ASEAN Moderate Cooperative Civilization Islam.

"We want to share views on Islamic matters, such as moderate Islam, tolerant Islam, and Islam that encourages followers to cooperate with others," Hidayat remarked.

The cooperation is expected to highlight the concepts of tolerant Islam among academics of Islamic universities in ASEAN countries.

Chairman of the Unisba Foundation Miftah Farid remarked that as founder of the cooperation institute of private Islamic universities in Indonesia, Unisba had a role to disseminate the concepts of moderate Islam among Islamic universities in the ASEAN.

"At least within the scope of the ASEAN, Islamic universities declare this beneficial cooperation as part of the three obligations of the higher educational institution that comprise teaching, research, and community service," he noted.

Unisba also invited Vice President Jusuf Kalla to attend and deliver a speech at the commemoration of the 60th anniversary of the university.

"We will commemorate the 60th anniversary of Unisba on November 17, 2018. We have invited the vice president to deliver a scientific speech at the event," Unisba`s Chancellor Edi Setiadi added.
