Indonesia continues to strive to improve economic relations with Tanzania in various fields, one of which is through cooperation in the use of nuclear technology for economic development.
The initiation of cooperation on nuclear technology was delivered by the Indonesian Ambassador to Tanzania, Ratlan Pardede, during a visit to Arusha Province.
"Indonesia and Tanzania through active cooperation can mutually support the use of nuclear technology for economic development," Ambassador Ratlan said in his remarks at the office of the Tanzania Atomic Energy Commission (TAEC).
During the visit to Arusha, Ambassador Ratlan also met with the Director General of TAEC, Lazaro S.P. Busagala. During the meeting, Ambassador Ratlan was invited to visit laboratory facilities owned by the Tanzanian atomic energy institution.
"Cooperation with Indonesia in the field of nuclear technology utilization will be one of TAEC`s priorities," Busagala said, adding that Tanzania could learn from Indonesia in building capacity in the use of nuclear technology for economic development.
In addition to meeting TAEC`s director general, Ambassador Ratlan also met with several officials of the Arusha Provincial administration, Arusha Province Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and the Arusha Provincial Mining Commission.
From the meeting with the Arusha Provincial Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the Indonesian ambassador learned that there was potential to export Indonesia`s palm oil and organic fertilizer products to Arusha.
In addition to having fertile agricultural lands, Arusha Province is also known as an area that produces valuable minerals, including gold and tanzanite.
The economic potentials of Arusha can be an opportunity for Indonesia to enhance the two countries` economic relations.
There are several investment opportunities in Arusha, including gold mining, agriculture, tourism and infrastructure development.
Tanzania is one of Indonesia`s partners in the East Africa region and non-traditional markets that have not been explored.
