The village economy halls are sponsored by state-owned companies through their Corporate Social Responsibility Program, Gumilang Adhi, an Ambassador of the State-Owned Enterprises, said here on Wednesday.
"Balkondes is a center of public activities usually related to tourism, aimed at increasing tourist visiting days in a destination, thus it could give economic values to the society," he said.
"There are 20 Balkondes developed by the state-owned companies in 20 villages in Borobudur subdistrict. In the near future it will also be developed in Yogyakarta, Solo and Semarang," Gumilang said.
Among the 20 village economy halls around the resort area of the ancient temple are the tourist villages of Tuksongo, Wringinputih, Wanurejo, Tanjungsari, Majaksingi, Karanganyar, Karangrejo, Borobudur, Bumiharjo, Candirejo, Tegalarum, Sambeng, Ngargogondo, Ngadiharjo, and Giripurno.
The Balkondes Bigaran is developed by Taman Wisata Candi; Balkondes Borobudur (Taman Wisata Candi), Balkondes Bumiharjo (Pembangunan Perumahan), Balkondes Candirejo (Semen Indonesia), Balkondes Giripurno (Taman Wisata Candi), and Balkondes Giritengah (Jasa Raharja).
Then, Balkondes Kembanglimus is sponsored by Patrajasa,? Balkondes Karanganyar (Bank BTN), Balkondes Karangrejo (PGN), Balkondes Kebonsari (Hutama Karya), Balkondes Kenalan (Bank Mandiri), Balkondes Majaksingi Desa Singkober (Jasamarga), Balkondes "The Gade Village" Ngargogondo (Pegadaian).
Balkondes Ngadiharjo is established by PT PLN, Balkondes Sambeng (Patra Jasa), Balkondes Duta Menor Desa Tanjungsari (Bank BRI), Balkondes Tegalarum (Angkasa Pura II), Balkondes Tuksongo (Telkom), Balkondes Wanurejo (Bank BNI), and Balkondes Wringinputih (Pertamina).
"At the Balkondes, tourists can not only buy local products but they can also stay in the village and enjoy cultural performance and traditional food," he said.
The State Enterprises Ministry has targeted to establish at least 100 village economy halls across the country, including in Bali, Labuan Bajo, Lake Toba, and Dieng.
