Tens of volunteers and officers put out the fire in the afternoon, Edy Sutiyarto, head of the Mount Merbabu National Park Office, stated here, Saturday.
He suspected that the blaze was caused by a local inhabitant, who burnt bushes and set fire, which spiraled out of control and spread to the mountain area triggered by strong wind.
The national park officers remain vigilant to prevent the recurrence of a similar wildfire.
