Jakarta (ANTARA News) - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) received a courtesy call from Palestinian Foreign Affairs Minister Riyad Al Maliki at the Merdeka Palace, here, Monday.

Jokowi was accompanied by Indonesian Foreign Affairs Minister Retno L. P. Marsudi while receiving Al Maliki, who was accompanied by Palestinian Ambassador to Indonesia Zuhair Al Sun.

On Sunday, Al Maliki took part in an event titled "Walk for Peace and Humanity: The Joint Walk to Independence for Palestine" as part of the Solidarity for Palestine Week organized by the Indonesian Foreign Affairs Ministry in Jakarta.

"We are walking together this morning to demonstrate that Palestinians will never be alone in their struggle for independence. The Palestinian dream is the Indonesian dream too," Minister Marsudi noted in her remarks at the event.

The "Walk for Peace and Humanity" activity was held to strengthen solidarity and deepen understanding of the wider community of Indonesia`s contribution and role in the struggle for Palestinian independence.

"The road to the Welcome Monument becomes a symbol of Indonesia`s solidarity, support, and commitment to Palestine towards our goal, so that we can welcome an independent Palestinian state," Marsudi stated.

Al Maliki noted that all support and solidarity shown by the Indonesian government and people were like a breath of "fresh air" for Palestine.

"Thank you for giving us the `fresh air` from Jakarta, Indonesia, to Palestine," Minister Al Maliki stated.

He emphasized that Indonesia`s support and solidarity held significance for Palestine, which had been under the Zionist Israeli occupation for 51 years.
