"I would like to thank the police, especially, of course, the military, as the last three major events in the country -- the Asian Games, Asian Para Games, and the IMF meeting in Bali -- were all held safely," Vice President Kalla stated while giving a briefing during a seminar at the High Police Leadership School for the 27th National Police commemoration in the 2018 Academic Year at the Auditorium of the Jakarta Police College, Monday.
Vice President Kalla emphasized that if the Indonesian National Police and military had failed to offer stringent security, the three international events would have had a negative impact on the country`s economy.
Kalla opined that if a big explosion of fireworks were to have occurred in Bali during the implementation of the IMF-World Bank annual meeting, Indonesia would have suffered a huge loss as a result.
"Finally, people will say that they do not have to invest in Indonesia; although it is possible that only large firecrackers explode, especially if there are real bombs. If two finance ministers from other countries die here, we will run out," the vice president remarked.
Likewise, the Asian Games and Asian Para Games sports competitions were held in Jakarta, West Java, and Palembang. The vice president noted that good security lent a positive image to Indonesia as the host.
"The effect is that Indonesia is safe and because it is safe, let us invest in Indonesia. Let us do business with Indonesia. That is all the ends. The end is the order there (investment)," he added.
