Calang, Aceh(ANTARA News) - Floods, triggered by incessant heavy rains, have inundated hundreds of homes in seven sub-districts, Aceh Jaya District, Aceh Province, since Monday.

Downpours caused four rivers - Teunon, Suak Beukah, Panga and Krueng Oen, to spill over their banks, T Irvan TB, district head of Aceh Jaya, said here on Wednesday, while visiting flood-hit Gampong Blank Baro, Teunom sub-district, since Monday.

The seven sub-districts affected by floodwaters reaching a height of up to 1.5 meters, are Teunom, Panga, Pasie Raya, Darul Kamal, Setia Bakti, Krueng Sabe and Sampoiniet.

The flooding has affected a total of 1,410 families or 4,204 people.

Inhabitants of Tuwi Kareung, Lhok Guci and Tuwi Peuriya villages in Pasie Raya sub-districts were evacuated to higher grounds, he said.

Meanwhile, 29 villages in seven sub-districts in South Aceh Districts, were also flooded.

The flooding had hit South Aceh since Monday and submerged at least three schools in Central Trumon sub-district, Junaiti, a resident of Cot Bayu village, Central Trumon, said.

Floods hit four villages in Central Trumon, three in Kota Bahagia sub-district, two in Central Kluet sub-district, seven in Pasie Raya, seven in Tapaktuan sub-district, two in East Kluet sub-district, and four villages in North Kluet sub-district.

Landslides also hit Gampong Panjupian village in Tapaktuan, as well Gampong Lawe Sawah and Buloh Didi in East Kluet.

Flood waters reaching a height of up to two meters also forced local inhabitants to evacuate themselves to safer places.

Six families were evacuated to a local hall in Central Trumon, and 17 people took refuge in a fire brigade office in Tapaktuan.
