"With the Indonesian Association of Animation and Creative Industries (Anaki), we are now preparing a better road map," Bekraf Deputy Head Ricky Joseph Pesik remarked, after closing the Indonesia Creative Cities Festival (ICCF) series in Yogyakarta on Thursday afternoon.
According to Ricky, the road map for the development of the animation industry needs to be completed immediately, considering the potential of a large domestic animation studio.
He noted that many local animators were awarded animation-making projects from overseas animation companies.
"There are certainly not too many human resources and animation companies, but many of them, especially from Bali and Batam, have actually worked on international-scale orders, such as from Hollywood," Ricky said.
He acknowledged that there is not much studio space for local animators at domestic television stations. However, he noted, this is not a large obstacle, because there is still a lot of space in other places to produce the work of animators.
"Right now, it does not only have to be television, as animators can still produce from webtoons to games, and that is in very high demand," he said.
Further, Ricky noted that Bekraf recently signed a commitment to support eight companies, or national animation business groups, to participate in a mentorship program with investors at the Asia Animation Summit 2018 in South Korea.
"The participants at the Asia Animation Summit are all funded by Bekraf, with the aim to make their animation worthy of sale to investors in Korea," he said.
