Currently electrification covered only 90 percent of the province.
"In 2020 at the latest it would be 100 percent. The lowest ratio of electrification is in the district of Indragiri Hilir which has reached only 70 percent. In Pekanbaru it is already 100 percent and in Kuantan Singingi it is around 99 percent," head of the provincial ESDM office Indra Lukman Agus said here on Tuesday.
He attributed the low electrification ratio in Indragiri Hilir to difficult terrain saying that district has many rivers that it is not easy for the state owned electric company PLN to reach all areas in that district.
"Now, however, PLN already has the technology to reach all areas for electrification," he said.
In addition, PLN in distributing power has to consider economic aspect of an area, he said, adding efficiency has to be considered.
