Minister Counselor of the Indonesian Embassy (KBRI) in London, Thomas Siregar told Antara correspondent here on Sunday that the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to that effect was signed in front of Director General of National Export Development, Indonesian Ministry of Trade, Arlinda, attended by the Indonesian Embassy`s Trade Attache in London Nur Rakhman Setyoko and Vitto R Tahar, the Indonesian Embassy`s economic function coordinator.
The signing of the MoU by the Indonesian company and its counterpart was carried out at the 33th Indonesia Convention Exhibition (ICE), Bumi Serpong Damai (BSD).
The business deal was part of the trade fair organized by the Trade Ministry from October 24 to 28, 2018.
Nur Rakhman Setyoko expressed hope that the MoU would increase trade relations between Indonesia and the UK. It should be maintained and expanded. It should not cover plastic sector only but also other industries such as textile, furniture and food.
Cooperation contracts between Indonesian suppliers and partners from the UK have entered the second year. Transaction figures have increased by 300 percent.
Nur Rakhman hoped this activity could be an effective means for Indonesian entrepreneurs who want to have a wider business network to market products, especially to the UK.
They also currently set sights on a number of wider markets they are still focused in the UK for their products such as garments, textiles and coffee.
The Indonesian Embassy in London this year brought 24 prospective buyers from the UK who were registered to participate in the 33rd Trade Expo Indonesia event.
The UK is one of Indonesia`s main trading partners in the European Region. During the period of January - August 2018, the value of Indonesian-UK trade was US$1.76 billion, an increase of around 12.96 percent in the same period of the previous year.
During the January-August 2018 period, Indonesia had a surplus of US$185.5 million. *
